According to UNICEF [1], over 1 billion children in the world are living in poverty. The statistics are grim and there is great need, but there are also many people all over the world who are doing something positive to combat these problems and be a part of the solution!

Do you have a love of culture and diversity? Does your heart go out to victims of natural disasters or hungry people all over the world? Maybe you are passionate about helping AIDS orphans in Africa? Perhaps you love meeting people from other countries and hearing stories about their heritage? Would you like to raise awareness of programs protecting children from child labor and exploitation? The world is full of people who are in need and others who are trying to help them.

People’s needs may range from uncertainty about where their next meal will come from to not being able to afford basic health care and vaccines. Volunteering as a family could mean involvement in many different ways.

While some international volunteer opportunities might involve a volunteer vacation abroad or contributing money to worthy causes across the world, other opportunities of spreading tolerance and love towards people from other countries abound in our own neighborhoods and communities.
